This parish is so called to distinguish it from St. Anthony in Roseland, and Anthony St. Jacob's. It lies at the entrance of the Helford River, and is bounded by Manaccan and St Keverne. The church was restored in the year 1889 at a considerable cost.
Great Dinas and Little Dinas are two ancient entrenchments, within which have been found many Roman coins. They were occupied by Sir Richard Vyvyan, of Trelowarren, for King Charles during the civil wars, and defended with 26 guns, but after an obstinate resistance were surrendered to General Fairfax. Near here were found some stone coffins.
At Condurra in this parish, a large heap of Roman brass coins were found in the 1800's, bearing the head of Constantine, or some of his family, and on the reverse an outline of a great city supposed to be Romer or Constantinople. At Trewothack the remains of an ancient chapel were also discovered.

Another large volunteer project is the "FreeCen" project. The goal of this project is to publish online for free access, transcripts of all the English Census Records. The Cornwall section of this country wide project is well advanced and the links to the left lead to current records available online for St Anthony. Also making good progress is a project by "Archive CD Books" to digitise actual images of the various Census Records by agreement with "The National Archives" (formerly, The Public Record Office). Do visit there website for details on purchasing the CD's of the census records. Also available to make the searching of census records easier are indexes put out by the "New Zealand Society of Genealogists" (1851 index) and the "Cornwall Family History Society" and a visit to the respective websites will give details on how to go about obtaining these indexes.
