Charlton Horethorne share it boundaries with many other surrounding parishes. Starting in the north we have South Cadbury, Compton Pauncefoot and Maperton, all in Catash Hundred. Around to the East is North Cheriton, Horsington, Abbas & Templecombe, with Henstridge sharing the southern boundary and the western boundaries are shared with Milborne Port and Corton Denham. Charlton Horethorne is a parish, formerly a market town, situated on the road from Wincanton to Sherborne, 1½ miles north west from Milborne Port Station on the London and South Western Railway, 5 miles south west from Wincanton, in the Eastern division of the County, Horethorne Hundred, Wincanton petty sessional division, union and county court district, Milborne Port district of the rural deanery of Merston, archdeaconry of Wells and diocese of Bath and Wells. The church of Saints Peter and Paul, formerly belonging to Kenilworth Priory, is a fine old building of stone, partly in the Perpendicular style , consisting of chancel, nave of 3 bays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower with pinnacles containing a clock and 8 bells....................The register dates from 1734, but a great portion of it has been lost. In this parish are 3 round barrows, which in July 1877, were examined by the late Professor ROLLESTON of Oxford and Leut. Gen. A.H.L. FOX-PITT-RIVERS when a quantity of pottery, a bark coffin containing a bronze dagger and human bones, together with other human remains, burnt and unburnt, with flints, were found.
